A 17-year-old musician has been expelled from her Christian high school for performing at bars and nightclubs that serve alcohol.
Baily Griggs says she was expelled from Cramerton Christian Academy in Gastonia, North Carolina, before her senior year because of her presence in places where “there are drugs and alcohol,” such as “nightclubs or bars.”
The school reportedly informed his mother Jennifer about the decision via email.
“When you look at the handbook and the way it’s written, it says not to meet in places where there’s alcohol and drugs,” Jennifer said. WRAL News.
“She’s not collecting, she’s doing her job.”

Baily said that going to the venues is part of his music career and that he does not drink when he goes to the venues because he is underage.
His mother Jennifer argued that many of the school’s students post pictures of themselves attending concerts where there is alcohol and have not been expelled.
“There are posts, many, many posts from other kids in schools going to music concerts,” Jennifer said.
‘If anyone knows, when you go to those concerts, you’re surrounded by alcohol.’
Additionally, Jennifer argued that many restaurants also serve alcohol.

However, Cramerton Christian Academy stood by its decision, saying it has very high standards and does not enroll students who do not meet them.

Baily has been acting since he was 10 and was discovered by Dolly Parton’s producer Kent Wells.
She had been homeschooled while enrolled at Cramerton, but enrolled in the homeschool bridge program, which allowed her to participate in school sports and other activities.

According to the Gaston Gazette, Baily was the captain of the cheerleading team and an active member of the school’s church.
Baily and her mother say they are not asking the school to change its decision, but believe the rules should apply to everyone.
“Yes, rules are rules, but make sure everyone follows them, not just some people,” Baily told WRAL.
Baily is now considering other homeschooling programs and plans to continue acting while working toward her diploma.
