A mother threw her disabled six-year-old son into a crocodile-infested river, where the reptiles reportedly killed him.
Savitri Kumar, 26, from Uttara Kannada, a district in the western Indian state of Karnataka, got into a heated argument with the boy’s father, Ravi Kumar, 27, who repeatedly ordered her to “throw the child”, the Indian Times reports.
Police say her husband allegedly questioned her decision to give birth to a disabled child.
When the parents fought again over their son on Saturday night, Savitri was “distraught” and reportedly threw her son into a waste canal that flows into the crocodile-infested Kali River.
Neighbors who witnessed this called the police, who deployed divers to search for the boy in the water, but to no avail, as the darkness made their operations difficult.

They returned Sunday morning and found the boy’s body, which had bite marks all over it.
The boy suffered serious injuries and was missing a hand, which a police officer said indicated that one or more crocodiles killed the boy.
An autopsy was ordered to determine the cause of the six-year-old boy’s death.
The couple also have another two-year-old son and are said to frequently fight over their eldest son’s speech impediment.
Officers have launched an investigation into the incident.
A police officer told local media that it was a “murder” case and that both the husband and wife had been arrested.
