A mother claimed she was forced to take her son to emergency hospital when “red swollen” marks appeared on the top of his head – just minutes after using her baby shampoo. Asda.
Natalie Mathias, 23, from Malvern, Worcestershire, was horrified when “raised and swollen” marks “warm to the touch” appeared on her 19-month-old baby’s head, minutes after taking a bath.
The 23-year-old said she used a new bottle of Asda’s Little Angels shampoo to bathe her son called Haisley – a product they had used regularly since he was born.
However, Haisley was in so much pain that he “collapsed” and was so “distressed” that Natalie chose to rush to Malvern Community Hospital on February 24.
Natalie Mathias claimed she was forced to rush her 19-month-old baby Haisley (both pictured together) to hospital – minutes after using an Asda baby product.
About ten minutes after using the product, “raised and swollen” marks appeared on Haisley’s head.
Asda says it has sold more than 250,000 bottles in the past 12 months and has not received any reports of similar incidents. The supermarket added that the product had been dermatologically accredited by the Skin Health Alliance.
However, after sharing their ordeal on social media, five other mothers also claimed their children had suffered similar reactions after using products from the Little Angels range, including three after using the shampoo.
Natalie said: “This could have happened to a newborn. I’m glad we caught it early and took him straight to the hospital.
Natalie had been using Asda’s Little Angels baby shampoo before the ‘warm to the touch’ brands appeared
The 19-month-old was in so much pain that he became “distressed” and had a “fit,” according to Natalie.
“Since then, we have put all the products in the trash. We no longer risk such a thing. We will never buy this range again. We haven’t shopped at Asda since this happened.
“If it had gotten in his eyes, it could have been a lot worse.” It’s frustrating, it’s supposed to be a baby product and they cause (marks) like that. It could have been a lot worse for us, we feel lucky.
Natalie and her partner were giving Haisley a bath when “red swollen” marks appeared on his head about 10 minutes later.
Natalie, a former saleswoman, said: “He had a bath in the afternoon and then ten to fifteen minutes later he came out (those marks).
“He’s never had a reaction before. We have been using these products since he was a newborn.
“We used the shampoo, conditioner, body lotion and lavender spray. He’s never had a reaction like this.
Concerned for her son’s welfare, Natalie was forced to rush Haisley to Malvern Community Hospital.
Haisley has used products from the Little Angels Asda range from birth without any reactions or skin irritation.
“He had (these marks) all over his head and the back of his head was bright red.” They were raised and swollen. It looked like an allergic reaction.
“They were warm to the touch. He had a seizure; he was really distressed. I was really worried as a mother.
Natalie said she complained about the product at the Asda store in Worcester and claimed she received a £5 voucher after reporting the incident to staff.
Natalie shared news of the incident on social media and five other parents claimed their children had a similar reaction to the product.
The baby had already used the range’s shampoo, conditioner, body lotion and lavender spray without any problems.
When the mother-of-one returned to the Asda store to complain, she claimed she was offered a £5 voucher.
An Asda spokesperson said: “We are sorry to hear about Ms Mathias’s experience with this product.
We have sold over 250,000 bottles of Little Angels shampoo in the last 12 months and have not received any similar complaints during this time.
“This product has been dermatologically accredited by the Skin Health Alliance and the formulation and ingredients have not been changed since 2020.
“If a customer has any concerns about a particular product, they should immediately return it to the store or contact us directly. »
