A young mother has been heavily criticised for a “disgusting” act at a public swimming pool which has left thousands divided.

The mom recently revealed that she has a strict routine of going swimming every week with her family, even when she has her period.

Others questioned the mother’s admission that she was not using a tampon or menstrual cup at the time.

“I swam every Friday afternoon with my better half and my son. My sister told me it was disgusting that I swam while bleeding,” she told parenting forum Mumsnet.

“But it was towards the end of my cycle and my period was practically over.”

The mother confirmed that she would not go into the pool with a “heavy” flow, but she did not see the problem occurring at the end of her cycle.

“My sister said it’s not fair for others to swim,” she added.

Are there really rules about this? Would it be okay to use a tampon if you wanted to swim?

The mom also revealed her aversion to using a tampon while in the pool.

“I don’t know what everyone else thinks, but if I shower with a tampon in, it will fill up with water and expand quickly.”

Many were stunned by the mother’s “vile” behavior.

“Swimsuits for days when I urinate lightly and cups for days when I urinate heavily,” one of them recommended. “I wouldn’t go into a public pool where people could see blood running down my legs. Besides, it’s not the right thing to do.”

“Basically, free bleeding in the pool isn’t equivalent to peeing in the pool? That’s totally off limits,” said another, while a third claimed that free bleeding was “worse” than peeing in the pool.

Some did not see the problem with the mother’s behavior.

“There’s nothing wrong with what you’re doing, I used to wear a tampon but now I just wear a menstrual swimsuit with shorts over it and I have no leaks,” one woman wrote.

“In my experience, the water pressure stops or slows down menstrual flow. If there is any leakage, I doubt you’d notice. It’s not like you’re leaving a trail of blood,” another shared.
