Erik ten Hag and Marcus Rashford are reportedly barely speaking to each other, with Man United staff claiming to fear their relationship has broken down irrevocably.

According SunTen Hag and Rashford have barely spoken since the star called in sick to train following a 12-hour bender in Belfast last month.

Rashford’s escapades in the Northern Ireland capital led to him missing a training session and Man United’s FA Cup victory over Newport County due to illness.

The England international was later fined £650,000 (two weeks’ wages) when details of his drunken antics emerged.

Rashford was “clearly on a mission to get drunk”, according to accounts of his night out in the Northern Ireland town, and collapsed into bed fully clothed at 3am.

He missed training after staying out until 3am in Belfast while visiting former team-mate Ro-Shaun Williams, and then tried to mislead the club by saying the night out was on Wednesday and not Thursday.

Ten Hag attempted to put an end to the incident in public last month, revealing that Rashford had taken responsibility.

Asked if Rashford’s behavior showed a lack of respect towards his manager, Ten Hag said last month: “I have nothing to do with it but in football, you need discipline and that’s on the pitch but also off the field.”

‘There is a dividing line between what every player, every professional knows this and what is required. We have to focus on winning football games and that is the only thing that matters and every great professional knows what it takes.

‘He has taken responsibility and otherwise it is an internal matter. Case closed.’

The Sun reports that the relationship has not been repaired despite Ten Hag’s public comments.

The Man United boss reportedly took Rashford to a private meeting to hear his explanation.

Man United staff are reportedly concerned as the situation is now irrevocable.

Ten Hag publicly tried to move on from the incident, but it is claimed his relationship with the striker broke down.

Rashford had already had issues with Ten Hag earlier in the season, with the Man United boss claiming it was “unacceptable” after the star held a birthday party at a nightclub hours after their 3-0 defeat to the Man City.

The striker has scored just five goals in 31 games this campaign, a marked dip in form after scoring 30 goals in 56 games last season.

Ten Hag’s future at Man United remains uncertain, with new minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe reluctant to discuss the Dutchman’s position after securing his 27.7 per cent stake in the club.

Former Man United star Gary Neville has claimed that Ratcliffe will probably have already decided on Ten Hag’s future.

“I think they’re going to make a decision pretty quickly if they haven’t already,” Neville told Sky Sports.

“I suspect Jim Ratcliffe and Dave Brailsford already know whether they will keep Ten Hag as coach next season.

“I can’t believe they’re going to wait until May to make that decision and then come up short.”

Rashford has also aroused the interest of Paris Saint Germain given the imminent departure of Kylian Mbappé. Any sale of the English striker would be transformative for Man United’s finances.

Manchester United currently sit eight points behind Aston Villa in the race for the Champions League next season. The Red Devils will travel to Nottingham Forest on Wednesday to play in the fifth round of the FA Cup.
