Five people, including school children, were injured in a knife attack at a kindergarten in South China.
The attack took place in the Panyu District of Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, on Monday around 7 a.m. local time.
The five injured were rushed to a local hospital while the attacker was detained by police, according to authorities. An investigation is underway.
Officials have not disclosed details of the five injured, but Chinese media said at least four of them were children attending kindergarten and the nearby school.
Footage circulating online shows medics caring for the injured on the spot after police officers cordoned off the neighborhood.
Panyu police said in one notice that the suspect was being held by officers and that there was an ongoing investigation into the incident.

A witness told it The Beijing News that the man threatened to injure himself after being chased by two guards during the attack.
He is also being treated at the local hospital, according to the newspaper.

The news comes as a knife attack that injured 39 school children and staff and shook China earlier this year.
The attack took place at Central Primary School in Wuzhou City, Guangxi Autonomous Region on June 4 at around 8:30 am local time.
The attacker was identified as 50-year-old Li Xiaomin who worked as a security guard at the school.
