A video clip documenting the outbreak of a horrific fire in the “missile” market in the Saudi city of Jeddah, on Thursday night, spread, and the reasons for its occurrence are still unknown.

Footage shared by the pioneers of social networking sites showed the flames spreading in the place and clouds of smoke rising from the fire, which affected a large number of shops.

Civil defense teams rushed to the scene to put out the fire.

In a tweet, the Saudi Civil Defense announced on its Twitter account that “a fire that broke out in the missile market has been put out,” and noted that no injuries were recorded and that “the preventive aspect has been implemented and the cooling work is still continuing.”

The “rocket market” or as it is known as “the rocket market” is a popular market located in the southwestern part of the city of Jeddah, and it is considered one of the largest markets in the Kingdom in terms of area.

The history of the establishment of the market dates back to about 3 decades and includes about 12 thousand shops, in which you can find offices and shops selling clothes, antiques and foodstuffs, in addition to car parts and many goods and commodities imported from abroad.

It was dubbed the “Al-Sawarekh” market because of its location adjacent to the Saudi military missile base located in the southern region of the city of Jeddah.
