Clueless actress Alicia Silverstone has shocked fans with her toxic snack choice – filming herself carelessly biting into a poisonous berry that can cause fever and agonising stomach pain.
The 47-year-old Hollywood star posted a clip on her TikTok channel showing her eating a small orange berry she had picked from a London garden, while asking her fans “what the heck” it was.
In response to the video, which has garnered 1.1 million views on TikTok, fans warned the actor that the plant is a “toxic” Jerusalem. Cherry and urged her to tell them how she felt.
Others joked that she “clearly has no idea” and questioned why she would eat “random, unknown things off the street.”
But doctors say all parts of the plant are poisonous, especially the green fruits, which if eaten can cause fever, sweating, vomiting, stomach pain, headache and increased heart rate.

Unwittingly eating a potentially dangerous plant, Silverstone told her 4.3 million followers:I have discovered something and I can’t understand what it is and I need your help.
‘I took a bite because I was on the street and we were arguing about whether this was a tomato or not.
‘It’s definitely not a tomato because of its leaves.
‘So what the hell is this?’
After holding the orange berry up to the camera, she confessed that she didn’t think it was edible.
“I don’t think you should eat this, but it’s almost like a pepper,” he said.

One social media user commented: “OMG NO! Jerusalem cherry is very poisonous, it belongs to the nightshade family. Hope you are okay.”
Another said: ‘Girl! Berries are either cool or they’re poisonous! Don’t eat random forest stuff.’
One fan said: “He clearly has no idea…”
Others warned that the berries can cause itching and are definitely not safe to eat.
Solanum pseudocapsicum, also known as Christmas cherry or Jerusalem cherry, is a small, bushy, evergreen shrub that produces dark, shiny leaves and red or orange berries.
This plant, which is part of the nightshade family, is “harmful if ingested” and should be handled with gloves, according to the Royal Horticultural Society.
NHS GP Dr Hana Patel warns the plant can be fatal if ingested and deaths have been reported.
She said: “If the plant or fruit is eaten, early symptoms may include fever, sweating, vomiting, stomach pain, headache and increased heart rate. Symptoms are delayed for several hours and may persist for days.”
He added that it can also cause allergic skin reactions.
