A historic achievement for Moroccan Khadija Al Mardi in boxing

Date:

Moroccan Khadija Al Mardi became the first African to win the world boxing championship gold, after defeating Kazakhstan’s Lazat Konjibayeva in the over 81 kilograms final on Sunday.

Khadija beat her Kazakh opponent 4-1.

The 32-year-old boxer defeated Kongibayeva during the Golden Belt series in Marrakech last month.

Khadija previously won the 2019 World Championship bronze, then the silver last year in Turkey.

The Russian Diana Piatak and Aynur Rzayeva, the Azerbaijani boxer, won the bronze medal.
