Shocking footage has emerged of a teenage driver engulfed in flames after his Volkswagen Golf veered off the motorway and crashed into a tree.
Two hatchbacks were caught speeding on the Great Eastern Highway at Greenmount, east of Perth, at around 8.30pm on Friday.
Both cars were seen driving along the busy motorway without headlights before the driver of the Volkswagen Golf lost control and crashed into a tree.
The impact caused the hatchback to flip several times before landing back on the road, with flames bursting from its hood.
The second vehicle only had a few seconds to slow down and have enough time to get between the wreckage and the other vehicle in front.
Paramedics treated the Volkswagen’s 17-year-old driver and his 18-year-old passenger for non-life-threatening injuries at the scene.
Both were taken to Royal Perth Hospital in a stable condition.
WA Police have launched an investigation into the crash.

Footage captured by another driver was shared on the Facebook page Dashcam Owners Australia, where Australians criticised drivers for speeding.
“He plays stupid games and wins stupid prizes,” one person wrote.
“Putting your foot on the gas doesn’t make you a good driver,” wrote another.
“Driving at night without lights is a risk in itself, even more so at high speed,” said a third.
“I hope the main driver has learned his lesson and asked for the law to be explained as to why an accident occurred,” commented a fourth.
Some pointed the finger at the teenager who was driving the other vehicle, who fled without checking to see if the Volkswagen driver was okay.
“His ‘partner’ certainly didn’t stick around,” one person said.
Others said he was lucky to escape.
“The second guy actually drove very skillfully and got it right,” another viewer commented.
Fortunately, the driver and his 18-year-old passenger only suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to Royal Perth Hospital in a stable condition (pictured: burnt-out car).
Others jokingly praised the 17-year-old for using his indicator seconds before the crash, which some said was “a very rare occurrence in Perth”.
“Good for him for pointing out, (supposedly) driving at 50 km/h over the limit and without lights, but with indicators,” wrote one.
“It’s even more considerate than a BMW driver, as the VW driver uses the indicator to show his intention to leave the road,” said another.
A third shared: ‘He spent too much time thinking and demonstrating his ‘indicative’ usage and it was too much and he lost control.’
