A seasoned health professional has warned people about ordering drinks with lemon slices, saying they are “one thing” she wouldn’t touch in a restaurant or bar.
Vicky Derosa took to TikTok to warn her 410,000 followers about lemons and other citrus fruits.
“As a health professional and as someone who has been studying health for over 40 years, there is one thing I will never touch in a restaurant,” Derosa said at the beginning of his video, which has been viewed more than 75,000 times.
“Not in a restaurant, not in a bar, not anywhere else, unless you bought it, unless you washed it, and unless you sliced it,” he continued.

After revealing that the article in question was a lemon, Derosa issued a stern warning to his followers.
“Don’t do it,” he said. “Lemon, lime, orange. Don’t do it.”
The health professional went on to clarify her hardline stance against all things citrus, explaining that there was a legitimate reason for this aversion.
“Citrus is one of the dirtiest things,” Derosa said. “They have so many toxins.”
The health expert went on to say that even if the lemons are organic, there is “a theory that says that even if you buy organic, there is a lot of stuff on it.”
Derosa then indicated that she is skeptical when restaurants claim their lemons are organic.
“How many restaurants actually buy organic lemons anyway?” he asked.
“Citrus fruits are one of the dirtiest things,” the health expert said. “They have a lot of toxins.”
“So when they bring you a glass of water, when they bring you a drink at a bar, tell them, ‘Please don’t put a lemon wedge in it, please don’t put a lime wedge in it,'” Derosa said.
“I’m very compassionate and very kind… but I’m not sure I believe that.”
At this point in the TikTok video, the health professional reiterated her recommendation to avoid lemons.
‘So when they bring you a glass of water, when they bring you a drink at a bar, tell them, “Please don’t put a slice of lemon in it, please don’t put a slice of lime in it.”
“They are not washed,” he stressed. “And even if they are, they are not organic.”
Instead of garnishing a drink with a slice, Derosa recommended cutting the lemon into slices and drizzling some of its juice into the drink.

‘Think about having something that’s unwashed, that’s not organic, God knows where it’s been, and now all of a sudden it’s in your drink for an hour.’
In the comments section, other users expressed solidarity with Derosa and opposed the lemons.
“As a former waitress, I agree,” one woman wrote.
“It’s like Russian roulette,” someone commented.
Another user said he once had salmonella and was hospitalized for three days. He then claimed that the first question the CDC asked him was if he “put a lemon in (his) drink at a restaurant.”
At the end of her TikTok, Derosa joked about anxiety about lemons in restaurants

“Can you imagine what goes through my head?” he said, laughing. “I think about this stuff all day long.”
But then he returned to his message.
‘Don’t do it.’
