The young beautician-in-training lost her twin brother in a motorcycle accident in 2021, and Zahriya’s tragic death brought even more heartbreak to her grieving family.
More than 100 people gathered to greet and applaud Zahriya at Banner University Healthcare in Tucson. The practice of forming an honor guard for a person who has donated their organs is known as an honor walk.
Robert, who works as a fire captain, said Cold:’Since we have lost our twins, there will be a lot of darkness in the future and we will get through it no matter how difficult it is because that is what our daughter would have wanted for us.
“I’m devastated.”
The grieving father says Zahriya never recovered from the death of her brother Izac, adding: “It’s wonderful to know that parts of my baby will live on, but there are no words or anything that can make this better.”
Zahriya died Monday after an argument with her 25-year-old boyfriend, Angelito Adrian Olivas, police said.
She is said to have jumped on the trunk of his car to try to stop him from driving away, but Olivas did so and Zahriya fell to her death from the moving vehicle.
Olivas found his girlfriend of one-and-a-half years unconscious and took her to a nearby fire station, before she was rushed to hospital and later declared brain dead.
Zahriya climbed into the trunk of her boyfriend’s car during an argument and he drove off with her still inside, according to police. She later fell out of the vehicle and was fatally injured.

Zahriya Moreno, 22, was taken off life support by her family on Wednesday after she suffered injuries when she was thrown from her boyfriend’s vehicle on Monday.
Olivas has been arrested on charges of felony domestic violence, aggravated assault and endangering others.
Robert said he woke up Wednesday knowing Zahriya was going to be taken off life support.
Zahriya’s father said of the honor walk: “The outpouring of support is something I wouldn’t have imagined in a million years,” he said.
“I thought it would just be family and friends.”
He and his family described Zahriya as a “very strong girl” who “recently graduated from beauty school.”
She was active in JROTC and wanted to do that full time.
Meanwhile, Olivas has been arrested on charges of felony domestic violence, aggravated assault and endangering others.
He was released later that day after posting $2,500 bail, angering Robert.
“It almost seemed like a joke,” he said.
“I am disappointed in the judge and the judicial system.”
