A Sydney father says he wants answers after his son allegedly tried to kill his mother and brother without warning.

Emergency services were called to a home on Sydenham Rd in Marrickville, in Sydney’s inner west, shortly before 6pm on Thursday after reports of a stabbing near Marrickville High School.

Paramedics discovered a 25-year-old man with stab wounds to his face, neck, head and back, and a 55-year-old woman with a stab wound to her throat.

Jackyy Dang, 22, was arrested at the scene and taken to Newtown police station.

Jackyy Dang’s father said he has no idea why his son allegedly carried out the attack.

“I don’t know what happened to my family,” Dang told Nine News on Friday.

He explained that he arrived home at 5:30 pm and went to shower while his wife and two children were in the dining room.

“I can’t hear what happened outside… When I came out, everything was a mess.”

When he realized what had happened, he ran out and called triple zero.

Police said the attack had been planned, but there was no warning, the family was not known to police and there is no history of mental illness.

‘I want to know the answers; for my son and my wife,” said Mr. Dang.

They were both rushed to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, with the woman now in a stable condition and the man fighting for his life but now stable.

Police established the crime scene and are investigating the circumstances that led to the incident.

Detective Inspector Ben Kennis said a man arrested over the incident was the man’s 25-year-old brother and the woman’s 55-year-old son.

“We will allege that (the accused) had been planning this for some time,” Inspector Kennis told media on Friday.

‘It was quite a contentious scene on Sydenham Rd in Marrickville.

‘This is a very serious incident related to domestic violence.

“We take this very, very seriously and a brief of evidence will be prepared for the court.”

Detectives said police did not know the family who lives on a quiet suburban street.

Inspector Kennis said police are investigating whether the man’s father, who was allegedly in the house at the time of the attack, was another intended target.

“The father was not in the room at the time and managed to run to the front of the premises and spoke to a witness, who alerted the emergency services,” he said.

The 22-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Newtown police station.

He has been charged with two counts of causing serious bodily injury/harm to a person with intent to murder.

The man did not apply for bail at Newtown Local Court on Friday and his case will return to court on July 18.
