A DoorDash driver received a surprising musical surprise when he visited a family’s home, but tragically revealed his own personal heartbreak as he shared his joy.
The emotional moment began when Kyle Philippi’s family started singing a song from Disney’s Hercules as soon as the driver arrived at the door.
But it wasn’t just Philippi’s family who were ready to put on a great show. Standing in the aisle was American Idol finalist Clark Beckham, dressed in ancient Greek garb.
Musicians playing a piano and guitar punctuated the melody as he began singing I Can Go The Distance while the Philippi family provided backing with a variety of props including a starry sky backdrop, peacock feathers and a stunning sunset made out of fabric.
The host was so moved by the performance that he revealed how meaningful it was to see happiness after sadly losing his daughter last year.
A DoorDash driver received a surprising musical surprise while making a food delivery to a family’s home and later revealed that he had recently suffered a personal tragedy.
Standing in the hallway of the house, Clark Beckham, dressed in ancient Greek attire, sang I Can Go The Distance.
At the start of the show, the DoorDash driver seemed completely bewildered as the family members got started, and one person placed a stack of $10 bills in his hand to buy him time.
Beckham took on the role of Hercules as he sang the song while slowly walking the distance as he climbed the stairs to the second floor of the house.
The serenade ended with confetti falling from the landing as the driver, still standing at the door, eventually received a $100 tip.
It was clear the experience brought a sense of joy to the host, who thanked the performers before revealing his own personal heartbreak.
“You’re all amazing. This has been amazing,” the man said, humbled by the experience.
“It was the best DoorDash I’ve been on in two years. I wasn’t even playing. It was amazing.”
A pianist and guitarist provided live music while the DoorDash driver was serenaded by the band.
Family members helped surround Beckham with various accessories, including peacock feathers.
With tears in her eyes, she recounted how she had lost her daughter last year and had been working at DoorDash to earn some extra money.
“I wish we could do more than that,” was the heartfelt response from Philippi, who runs the family’s Instagram account with nearly 16,000 followers..
“Keep up the good work. It’s incredible,” the host added.
“We call this ‘joy comes with freedom’ because we just want to spread joy to people, have fun and let them know that there are random and fun acts of kindness out there,” Philippi explained.
The entire hallway of the house was decorated with sheets for the performance.
The serenade ended with confetti falling from above to the floor below.
The family members dressed up to participate in the production.
“God bless you,” the man said to the family gathered in the hallway.
The funny stunt clearly had an effect on the driver. Just as he was heading back down the path, the doorbell camera caught him commenting loudly.
“That was amazing!” he said once again.
The melodic moment also captured the hearts of viewers who posted a series of positive comments after the performance.
“You brought a spark of joy to that man, you can see it in his eyes,” one user wrote.
“You never know what people are going through!” said another.
“This is the healthiest thing I’ve ever seen. Well done guys!” added a third.
“Wow, this was beautiful, that man opened up,” wrote one commenter, moved by the spectacle.
“This is so beautiful… I know I would have cried laughing through this whole process. It’s so touching and we NEED this! I hope you keep doing it,” one fan praised.
“This is the kind of nonsense I crave in my life. If I were the Door Dasher, I’d join in,” another user posted.
