An airline passenger expressed frustration after enduring a nine-hour Delta flight without a working TV, and commenters responded that “the rawdogging trend has gone too far.”
The travel phenomenon known as ‘rawdogging’ (meaning not consuming any entertainment during a flight except for basic maps or data displayed on a seatback screen) took off recently, but this passenger was clearly not on board with the trend.
The traveler took to Reddit to express his dissatisfaction, uploading a photo showing his seatback screen broken, while other rows in front of him were also experiencing the same problem.
In the post, they revealed: ‘We and the five rows in front of us have no entertainment system or charger (luckily I charged my phone battery, but others who haven’t been to this country are panicking) for a nine-hour international flight.’
To make matters worse, the disgruntled passenger said Delta upgraded people who were waitlisted to fly to Comfort Plus, and they did not receive any upgrades despite being “first on the upgrade list with my Medallion status.”
An airline passenger has expressed frustration after enduring a nine-hour Delta flight without a working television.
Reddit users were asked: “Is it wrong for me to ask for extra Medallion points or miles in general? I feel like I’ve been scammed and I’m curious if I’m being scammed or not.”
The post quickly generated dozens of comments, with many advising the passenger to file a complaint about the incident.
One Redditor wrote: ‘Delta is a company, not your friend… If it bothers you in any way, there’s no reason not to message them to try and earn points.
‘I got 5,000 points because the screen didn’t work on a 2.5 hour flight, I think.’
Another Reddit user echoed similar sentiments: “I recently had the same thing happen to me. I complained through the online system and they gave me 3000 miles.
“At least it’s something. The interesting thing is that someone called me to tell me.”
Some commentators joked that the poster had been forced into “involuntary rawdogging,” while others criticized him for not having an alternative source of entertainment.
One person wrote: ‘Things break and problems arise, that’s life, especially how much we rely on technology now.
The post quickly garnered dozens of comments, with many advising the passenger to file a complaint about the incident.
‘Absolutely (the original post author) should ask for some money or miles back, but if he doesn’t fly with plan B and plan C, that’s his problem.
‘Always have a book or something on your phone ready to go. Even if it’s stuff you’ve already seen, at least you have something.
‘I travel a lot for work, and even though it’s heavy, I always carry my work laptop, my Steam Deck, my phone, and my power adapter with me.
“You see all this when you travel a lot and I would like to be prepared.”
In response to the suggestion to file a complaint, the original author said he had concerns based on previous experiences with the airline’s customer service.
They explained: ‘My fear is that I have sent complaints before and they just say ‘we appreciate your feedback’ and nothing else happens.’
They also said that flight attendants tried to fix the problem by restarting the screens, but “to no avail.”
Acknowledging that it was not the flight attendants’ fault, they added: “I’ve worked in service so I understand, I’m just frustrated with Delta, not the attendants.”
