A ‘dangerous’ new TikTok trend sees people smear lip balm on their EYELIDS to get ‘high’
Doctors are warning of a dangerous new TikTok trend that sees people applying lip balm to their eyelids in order to ‘get high’ or have an all-night study session.
“Beezin'”, which debuted in 2010, involves subjects applying Burt’s Bees lip balm around their eyes to mimic and intensify the feeling of being high or drunk, as well as making them feel more alert.
While the trend in the past decade was short-lived, it is enjoying a renaissance in recent months after videos garnered millions of views on TikTok.
Doctors warned that promoting this idea is “dangerous” because it may cause skin problems such as eyelid dermatitis and possible infections.
A man puts Burt’s beeswax lip balm on his eyelids in a nightclub in a TikTok video that has 8 million views.

A Burt’s Bees representative told Fox News Digital that while the product may be 100 percent natural, “that doesn’t mean it can turn heads.”

“The skin on the eyes is very sensitive, so doing something like[applying Burt’s Bees in there]can cause contact dermatitis,” said esthetician Carly Mosleh.
Burt’s Beeswax Lip Balm, whose classic flavor contains peppermint, can leave users’ lips feeling cool and tingly. The same effect can be felt on the eyelids when applied there, as peppermint oil causes a burning sensation that makes people’s eyes feel alert.
The videos show people rubbing lip balm around their eyes and then passing it on to their friends.
But esthetician Carly Mosleh cautioned against this trend on TikTok.
“The eye skin is very sensitive,” she said, “so doing something like this could cause contact dermatitis.”
“But not only that, using something on your lips and eyes and sharing it with other people can carry bacteria and spread infection.”
Eyelid dermatitis is a common condition that causes the skin on or around the eyelid to become dry, itchy, and sore.
A representative for Burt’s Bees told Fox News Digital that while the product may be 100 percent natural, “that doesn’t mean it can turn heads.”
They said: ‘Burt’s Bees tests all of their products, including Beeswax Lip Balm, to ensure they are safe for their intended use. We recommend that people use our products as directed.
Milton Home, member of the Optometry Times Editorial Advisory Board He said The direction can trigger a “full-blown inflammatory response that requires treatment.”
Burt’s Beeswax Lip Balm contains ingredients including peppermint oil.
The brand’s medicated moisturizing lip balm also contains menthol.
Both of these substances will give a cooling effect when applied, which can make people feel more alert.
Mrs. Musleh said that the effect will happen faster because the eyelid skin is thinner.
