A Las Vegas man stabbed his wife to death before stabbing himself repeatedly, an arrest report revealed.
It revolves around 33-year-old Shiva Gummi, who was sentenced to between 10 and 25 years in prison for the 2023 murder of Dr. Gwendoline Amsrala in April of that year.
The crime occurred at the couple’s home a year earlier, after Amsrala went out to celebrate his first year of residency at UNLV medical school with a friend for a night of drinking.
Gummi disagreed with the excursion and savagely attacked his wife (and himself) upon his return.
He proceeded to dial 911 and told an operator that he stabbed himself multiple times and wanted to die, according to the report. She will now spend at least a decade behind bars, a year after she told dispatchers she had stabbed herself “everywhere” on her body.

“I want to die, but I’m not dying,” Gummi told the operator around 8:15 a.m. on April 15, claiming he had stabbed himself five hours earlier.
According to a newly revealed report, Gummi added that he was in a locked room.
“I want to die but I’m not dying,” he added, before being asked about his wife.
“(She is) by my side,” he said, Clark County deputies wrote.
When the operator asked if he could help her control the bleeding, he simply said, “She’s dead,” refusing to answer any further questions.
Officers who arrived at the home were let in by Gummi’s mother-in-law, investigators initially claimed, a person who appears again in the newly released report.
After forcing entry into the locked room, they found Gummi and his wife lying on a mattress, both with open stab wounds, after which a large, bloody kitchen knife was seen on the floor.
Police would take Gummi to the hospital and declare his wife dead, before questioning the woman left at the residence.

She told them that she was not aware of any domestic abuse between the two, but that Gummi had reportedly been angry because her daughter spent the night at a friend’s house who was drunk, celebrating finishing her first year as a doctor in training.
“(Gummi) was upset with Gwendoline after she spent the night at a friend’s house who was intoxicated after a night of drinking,” the report said.
Meanwhile, Amsrallah returned the night before at 9pm, while Gummi, who also left, arrived two hours later, furious at the unauthorized gathering.
At some point, he stabbed her several times before committing suicide, less than a year after his wife at the UNLV Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine.
She was mourned by friends and colleagues in the Las Vegas medical community, as a GoFundMe created by the doctor’s family stated that she was “destined for a rich and meaningful career dedicated to serving her future patients.”
“We always remember your discipline after school, by (organizing) things, doing homework and then meeting other people or playing,” his aunt added in an online obituary.
“We miss a young family doctor who had an infectious smile and the power to heal.”
Arrested during his hospitalization, Gummi reached a deal with the Clark County District Attorney’s Office last month, hence his light sentence.
He pleaded guilty to an Alford charge of second-degree murder, admitting to murder in the process.

He already has 405 days of credit for time served, meaning the remainder of his sentence could last less than ten years, even without good behavior.
He has also been asked to pay a fee of $428, KTNV reported.
A post on the UNLV Internal Medicine Instagram page after her former student’s death remembered her fondly.
It said: “The world has lost an extraordinary doctor who would have changed the lives of countless patients.
“Our program misses his infectious smile, his positive energy and the love he had for his work family.”
Gummi’s sentencing, meanwhile, is already underway, a year after the doctor saved his life on the operating table. Amsrala received his medical degree from UNLV Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine in 2022.
