People online were left scratching their heads after being challenged to spot a cat hiding inside a photograph of a red fence.

In this image, there are a pair of cheeky yellow eyes peering out from a secret place, but can you see them as well as they can hide?

The complicated optical illusion image promises to test people’s observation skills as a feline is cleverly disguised within the seemingly simple image of a fence and parts of a tree.

However, many people have been unable to pinpoint the creature’s location within a given time frame of less than 10 seconds, leaving many to face the challenge of spotting it quickly.

The uneven tops of the fence, its rusty red paint peeling, rise to where grey wooden beams support the enclosure.

Surrounded by the branches and leaves of a green tree, which causes shadows to form along the fence, the puzzlers have no choice but to use their eyes and brains to divide segments of the image and find the cat.

But for those who can look closely enough, the orange-yellow cat is peeking out from the shadows behind the top of the fence.

Look toward the center of the photograph, hidden between two points of the irregular fence inside a perfect triangle, and you can see the cat’s face, highlighted by a flash of sunlight.

The image is just the latest of many photographs that have baffled Internet users recently.

In November last year, a photograph circulated on the Internet of a leopard that appeared perfectly camouflaged in its surroundings as it stalked its prey.

Leopards are some of the stealthiest hunters on the planet, managing to avoid detection with deadly efficiency thanks to their spots.

In addition to remaining silent as they approach their prey, staying camouflaged is one of the keys to the big cats’ stalking ability.

The following image, taken by American photographer Art Wolfe, shows a leopard in Kruger National Park, Transvaal, South Africa.

While leopard spots make the creatures stand out in a zoo, in the wild, where there are more naturally many light and dark spots in quick succession (such as when looking through tall grass), the pattern is an evolutionary advantage.

Not only does this help with hunting, it also helps protect leopards from the potential threat of larger predators, such as lions, who share their habitat and compete for the same prey.

Look closer and you’ll see the big cat peering through the foliage and past a tree as it searches for its next meal.
