A British tourist has shared the differences between Australian and UK backyards.

From fences to mosquito nets to children’s trampolines, the woman was excited by the contrasts and surprised by the purpose of certain features.

In a now-viral video, he listed the common differences he learned in the Australians’ backyard.

‘I’m at my friend’s house in Australia and I thought I’d show you things we don’t see in the UK – Garden Edition. “Or if we have them, they are not commonplace,” he said.

First, he noticed that metal fences are prevalent in backyards and assumed that this material was used to prevent the spread of forest fires. But the Australians pointed out that the metal is used to deter termites and resist high winds.

Metal or iron tends to last longer than wood and does not rot. The woman mentioned that Australians also have metal terraces.

“Next, the trampolines with built-in UV protection. I’ve seen the odd trampoline with a cover, but generally I think it’s to prevent leaves from falling on it,” he continued with the tour of the backyard.

Trampolines with UV protection are unknown in the UK due to the colder weather for most of the year.

‘You can see it here too, I think it’s an orange tree. We have fruit trees in the UK but they are generally like apples and pears. I have a cherry and a plum tree, but citrus? “Stranger,” the woman added.

The woman then turned her attention to the pool, which is an expensive backyard feature in both Australia and the UK.

‘This pool is quite big, right, and it looks like an above-ground pool, but they’ve actually dug a hole. “This part of the pool is actually two meters deep,” he said.

The woman also noted that the pool fence, which is a requirement for swimming pools in Australia to prevent drowning, has not yet been installed.

Another thing that surprised him were the metal windows and the mosquito net to keep out moths and other insects.

The video was viewed more than 174,000 times and many Australians joined the conversation.

‘We have metal fences because they don’t deteriorate like wood. You also can’t see your neighbors which is great,” one wrote.

“The metal serves to scare away termites and resists strong winds,” said another.

‘Termites are bad in Oz. If it’s made of wood, they will eat your house,” added a third.

Someone else pointed out: ‘And in Australia we don’t call it a ‘garden’, we say ‘backyard’.’

“Metal windows are simply cheaper and easier to maintain coverings, as are diamond screens,” said another.
