He also created the Rocky Horror Show in the 1970s, which has remained in production ever since.
The writer, who has now produced a new dark fairytale musical called The Kingdom Of Bling, looked very different from his younger self as he shared details about his new project.

Speaking about his new musical, Richard said he was inspired by the presence of Donald Trump.
He said The New Zealand Herald‘I was motivated to write it by the horror of Donald Trump’s presence in the world.
‘I just wanted to write something derogatory that was entertaining at the same time and take us into a fairy tale… there is a dark side to fairy tales and it couldn’t be darker than Mr. Trump’s presence in the world.’
According to the actor, the show is inspired by fairy tales such as Peter and the Wolf and Alice in Wonderland.
In the 40-minute piece, Richard narrates alongside a number of characters.
Richard will donate all proceeds from the show to Starship Children’s Hospital.

Since 2013 he has been married to Sabrina Graf, 30 years his junior, and was previously married to Jane Moss from 1983 to 2006 (pictured together in 2012).
The musical kicks off its New Zealand tour in October and will travel across the country.
