A nine-month-old baby died inside a hot car after his grandmother left him there for eight hours.
The unidentified baby was found by his grandmother, who was seen by police holding the unconscious child in her arms shortly after 4 p.m. Wednesday.
The baby had been left in the car outside the East Flournoy home since 8:30 a.m.
“The parents were working. The grandmother had custody of the child at the time,” said Beeville Deputy Police Chief Richard Cantu Jr. Kris News 6.
The boy is believed to have died before the grandmother found him in the car, according to Khou 11.
No charges have been filed against the grandmother, who was reportedly admitted to the hospital on Thursday with a serious medical condition, the outlet reported.
“No charges are being filed at this time. We are making sure we have enough information that fits the elements of a crime before filing charges,” Cantu said.
A preliminary investigation determined that “the child’s grandmother had left the child in the backseat of her car in the child safety seat,” according to a statement.

The boy’s death is being investigated by Beeville Police as well as the Texas Department of Public Safety Rangers.

“Due to the triple-digit heat and humidity, we have to be extra cautious with who we leave in the vehicle, even pets,” she told KHOU 11.
This is the second car accident death in a week and nearly 30 people have died in the United States this year, according to Children and cars.

The boy’s death comes a day after another 1-year-old boy died after his mother forgot to drop him off at daycare in Corpus Christi.
A Florida mother, Martine Louis-Jacques, 62, was charged with child neglect without great bodily harm after leaving her five-year-old son in a hot car while she shopped at Walmart.
No charges have been filed against the grandmother, who was reportedly admitted to the hospital on Thursday in a serious medical condition.
Police said the boy, who was not identified, was “scared and distressed” after being left in the vehicle for about 20 minutes while his mother went shopping.
“Walmart employees observed the child (redacted) unsupervised inside the vehicle, which was completely enclosed with all windows rolled up,” it read.
The mother and son left the store after reuniting and she was later arrested for the incident.
