Swayde, a four-year-old boy, was attacked by a dog while playing at a friend's house

A four-year-old boy has suffered permanent damage to his facial nerve after being attacked by a dog while playing at a friend’s house.

Bull Arab rescue dog Orlando attacked the boy in Perth in August.

The boy’s mother, Jasmine Santich, has since called for the animal to be put down, amid claims her son was the third person attacked by the dog.

Ms Santich’s son, Swayde Rangi, needed reconstructive surgery on his face after being rushed to hospital from a property in Yangepup, south of Perth.

Ms. Sanitch recounted the moment her son was attacked.

“The dog lunged at his face, pushed him into the gravel and scratched both his arms, and (the dog) lunged at his face several times,” he told 7News.

Ms Santich said her son’s injuries were “horrible”.

“His eye was completely destroyed, it was very swollen and he was very scared. It was horrible,” said the mother.

The boy suffered serious injuries and required facial reconstruction.

Swayde will need another surgery next week. He has already spent five nights in Perth Children’s Hospital.

Ms Santich said the incident left her son terrified of dogs and he had shown symptoms seen in those suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.

“There was actually significant damage done to a child’s face,” he told 9News.

She asked what it would take to get more severe punishments for the dog after the attack.

“If this is not enough, what is?” he asked.

The local council has launched an investigation into the dog and has since declared it a dangerous dog.

A Cockburn City Council spokesperson confirmed the dog was released following an inspection of Yangeup’s property and compliance from its owners, who must now follow several strict conditions, according to the West Australian.

The boy will require further treatment in the coming week for his serious injuries, his mother said.

The dog must remain on a leash in public and wear a muzzle and “dangerous dog” collar at all times.

The city council could not confirm whether the animal had previously attacked others.

“Owners must comply with an annual property inspection to meet the requirements of the Dangerous Dog Declaration,” a council spokesperson told the West Australian.

‘These restrictions will remain in effect for the life of the dog or until an order is issued by the State Administrative Court.’

The owners also face a possible fine of $10,000 after the local council launched legal action against them under the Dogs Act.
