- A swimmer pulled the man out of the sea but he could not be revived
A British tourist drowned while diving at a notorious shipwreck in Greece during “rough seas,” local media report.
The 33-year-old man was swimming at the wreck of the Epanomi in Thessaloniki when he reportedly got into trouble on Sunday afternoon.
Another swimmer pulled him out of the sea while emergency services, including a lifeboat, rushed to the area.
Ambulance crews were unable to revive the unconscious man on the beach and he died at the scene, Greek news site. SL Press reports.
The deceased was transferred to the Hippocrates Hospital, where the autopsy is being performed. The Michaniona Port Authority is investigating the death.

It is said that the man was in the water when a brief storm and rain began, creating ‘difficult’ weather conditions.
While the wreck is a popular snorkelling spot on a sandbank just offshore, local media say swimmers generally avoid it in bad weather.
Epanomi is a small town in the Thessaloniki region of northern Greece. The shipwreck beach is less than 20 miles from the city of Thessaloniki.
