A British tourist has been found dead in a holiday apartment in the Algarve, Portugal.

The man, 30 years old, was discovered inside the Orada Tourist Apartments, near the marina in the town of Albufeira.

It is understood he was staying at the property with a friend.

The respected Portuguese newspaper Correio da Mana reported that the whereabouts of the friend, whose nationality has not yet been made public, is unknown.

The Portuguese GNR police were the first to be alerted, but the investigation has now been handed over to the country’s Judicial Police.

There has been no official comment from the police yet.

In addition to the police, firefighters and ambulances were also mobilized as part of the emergency response.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The four-star Orada Tourist Apartments complex has an outdoor swimming pool and 220 apartments plus a reception area staffed 24/7.

A source close to the ongoing investigation said: ‘The British man’s body was found on the floor next to the bathroom door of his flat.

‘There was a lot of vomit around him.

“The police suspect that he had suffered some kind of health problem.

“The GNR force received a call this morning around 7am from an English speaker who they believe was a friend saying there was probably a dead man in the apartment.

“But that same person just disappeared and the police can’t find him at the moment, which is strange in all of this and why they called the PJ police.

“They are currently trying to establish his whereabouts.

“The dead man was due to leave the apartment this morning so was probably flying back to the UK and investigators are trying to confirm it was his friend who called them and whether he ended up going to Faro airport after carrying out the emergency. “. call.

“They find it very strange that he didn’t realize he needed to stay after making the call as the person who called the emergency services.”

Another source added: “There are no obvious signs of violence in the apartment or anything to indicate that the man’s death was the result of a crime.”

‘It seems to be related to a health problem.

“But the autopsy has not yet been carried out and the Judicial Police will carry out a full forensic examination of the apartment and will speak to reception and request CCTV footage.

“Officers will also attempt to locate and speak to the caller.”

Police sources said the dead man was on a “brief getaway” to Portugal. It is understood he traveled with only a small suitcase.
