A young mental health worker endured two months of violence at the hands of her obsessive new boyfriend before he shot her dead and committed suicide, police believe.

Loren Marino, 24, was found dead in her home in Haverhill, Massachusetts, on Sunday night next to the body of Austin Amaral, also 24.

Loren’s best friend, Katie Iandolo, said the couple had known each other for some time, but their relationship turned violent immediately after they started dating earlier this year.

“There was a lot of obsession with him. “He came and never left,” she said. Boston25. “He didn’t want anyone but him to have a relationship with her.”

Amaral, of North Providence, Rhode Island, began controlling Marino’s social life and was brutally possessive, he said.

He pushed her hard against a dresser. I got a little scared of him,” she said.

“I was so psychotic in his eyes when he was yelling at me.”

Amaral, who is believed to have a young son from a previous relationship, made sure Iandolo saw the two guns he had brought to Marino’s apartment and began trying to separate Marino from his friends.

‘We had an instant connection. The day we met, we called each other soul sisters,” she said.

‘While she was sleeping, he took her phone and blocked my access.

“He deleted me from his Facebook, his Snapchat and his Instagram.”

Marino, originally from Rhode Island, worked as a mental health care professional at Anodyne Medical Services and aspired to become a registered nurse.

“I was flying back from Las Vegas and I heard these words: Loren was murdered,” Iandolo said.

‘I was hysterical. People brought me water and prayed for me.’

Her professional experience could not protect her from her boyfriend’s violence, and Iandolo urged other people who experience violence in their relationships to come out at the first opportunity.

“First warning sign, please leave,” he said.

‘It’s only going to get worse. There is no way to fix someone. There is no light at the end of that kind of tunnel.

Now the friends Amaral tried to exclude are preparing to attend Marino’s funeral on Sunday and trying to find foster homes for his two beloved dogs that were found unharmed next to his body.

“Loren was a beautiful and strong young woman, her incredibly beautiful spirit always lit up the room,” reads a tribute to her.

‘She was the life of the party and loved to dance, sing and cook. But most of all, she loved her family, her Little Raskals, Darla and Spanky and her many friends.
