A 15-year-old girl has died after being electrocuted on an active rail line this morning.

British Transport Police officers were called to the railway tracks in Weymouth, Dorset, at 2:25am today, after receiving reports of a victim on the track.

An ambulance was called to the scene, but the teen was pronounced dead.

A British Transport Police spokesperson confirmed that she died after “sustaining injuries caused by electrocution”.

All train services between Weymouth and Dorchester were halted while the body was recovered and an investigation launched.

Paramedics were also in attendance and sadly a 15 year old girl was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Investigations are underway to establish the full circumstances behind his death and his family is being supported by specialist officers.”

Detectives are keen to speak to anyone who has been in the Greenway Road, Weymouth area between 1am and 2.30am as they may have information that could help their investigations.
