A 12-year-old boy was allegedly beaten with a wooden spoon and a dog leash by a man and a woman in his own home.
A heroic stranger took the boy to the local police station in Blacktown at 6 pm on Tuesday.
He had injuries to his hands and back and was taken to Westmead Children's Hospital for treatment.
Now he is in charge of the Department of Family and Community Services.

The detectives of the Children's and Sexual Offenses Squad of the State Crimes Command initiated an investigation immediately after the child was found.
The police of Mt Druitt arrested a man and a woman on the property, it is said to be in the Glendenning area, according to reports.
They were taken to the Blacktown police station around 2 am on Wednesday.
The couple, both in their 40s and in western Sydney, has since been accused of assault causing actual physical damage.
