A man has been charged after allegedly fighting outside a pub with prominent sports journalist Paul Kent over the weekend.
A video emerged on social media over the weekend that appeared to show News Corp journalist Kent arguing and then fighting with another man on a street in Rozelle, in Sydney’s inner west, on Saturday night.
The video begins with Kent, 54, appearing to be arguing with a man, who Kent claims was abusing him.
“You talked down to me when I walked by,” Kent says in the video as people try to keep the men apart.
They appear to call each other “f***ing dogs” before Kent appears to shout “weak c***” at the man and tells him to “come here now.”
Bystanders try to keep the men apart, but they gather together, leaving the path outside the Three Weeds Hotel and onto the road before the video appears to show the man throwing Kent to the ground, after which the incident ends.
“At approximately 11.20pm on Saturday 27 April 2024, two men allegedly got into a verbal argument before becoming involved in a physical altercation outside a restaurant on Evans Street, Rozelle,” NSW Police said.
“Following extensive investigations, at around 6.45pm yesterday (Sunday 28 April 2024), a 35-year-old man attended Balmain Police Station where he was arrested.
“He was taken to Newtown police station and charged with affray.
“Investigations continue.”
A spokesperson for Fox and News Corp said Kent has been removed from his duties as host and columnist “pending an immediate investigation.”
It is the second time in the last 12 months that Kent has been removed from Fox’s flagship rugby league show, NRL 360.
He was stood down in May last year before being reinstated after being found not guilty of domestic violence charges in December, and returned to host the Fox show ahead of the opening games of the 2024 NRL season in Las Vegas.
