A devastated onlooker captured the moment a dog owner abandoned his pet in Long Beach, California, throwing the Bull Terrier mix out of his Lexus as they drove away.

A food delivery driver behind the unmarked black sedan recorded the harrowing scene as the dog desperately chased its owner as they sped off.

In the video, the delivery man is heard saying: ‘The owner is literally dropping it off… look! Oh Lord.’

Destiny Gomez, 24, a woman looking for homes for stray pets, saw the video and sent a message to the delivery driver.

‘When I saw that video, my heart broke. I couldn’t stop crying. “I couldn’t stop thinking about the dog,” Gómez told NBC Los Angeles in an interview from his car.

Based on the video, it appears that the dog is trying to keep up with the owner’s car on several different streets in the area where he was dropped off.

After posting the video on Instagram to appeal to her vast network of dog-loving followers, she received a notice telling her where the dog might be.

“We also got street coordinates where someone saw him, so they said, ‘Can you go there?'” Gomez told NBC Los Angeles in an interview from his car.

Tips from amateur canine detectives following Gomez’s Instagram led Gomez’s boyfriend directly to the neighborhood where the dog was abandoned. Hours later he found him safe and sound.

After making sure the dog was safe, fed and groomed, Gomez renamed him Chico and found him a foster father in nearby Palos Verdes.

Now Gomez is trying to find Chico a ‘forever home.’

“People have been texting me saying they want him and can pick him up today, but I want to go through a rescue first,” Gomez said.
