Rotherham United have praised “the professionalism” shown by paramedics after their clash with Birmingham was stopped by a medical emergency.

The incident occurred in the ninth minute of the match at AESSEAL New York Stadium, and both groups of players were taken to the locker room while medical staff attended to the emergency.

The match finally resumed, after a 35-minute break, with 11 minutes remaining. It ended 0-0 between the two championship teams.

After the game, the Millers released a statement on X, praising the work done by the paramedics and “the compassion” shown by both sets of supporters.

They wrote: “Everyone at Rotherham United would like to record our sincere thanks to the paramedics, medical professionals and both sets of supporters for the professionalism and compassion shown during the medical emergency at New York’s AESSEAL stadium this afternoon.

‘Our thoughts and prayers are with the fan, who was taken to hospital from the stadium after being treated at the scene by medical support from St. John’s Ambulance and the respective doctors of both clubs.

“Under unimaginably difficult circumstances, it was incredible to see on-field loyalties put aside and the efforts of medical professionals and support staff receive the praise they deserved from everyone inside AESSEAL New York Stadium.

“We now ask that the fan’s privacy be respected during this time.”
