Three people have been rushed to hospital after a unit complex caught fire.

Emergency services were called to an apartment block on Devonshire Street in Surry Hills, Sydney, at 3.30am on Sunday.

A fire had broken out on the second floor and firefighters quickly extinguished it before the flames could spread to surrounding units.

Paramedics treated two people at the scene before taking them to Royal North Shore Hospital and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital with serious burns.
