Joey Barton has revealed that he believes there is a clear winner in the debate between Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Paul Scholes who was the best player.
The former Newcastle United midfielder had the privilege of playing against all three during his time in the Premier League.
However, when speaking on his podcast, Common Sense with Joey BartonThe former Magpie admitted that he would prefer to play against two of the three.
‘I don’t even think this is close, you know? “I don’t even think this is close,” she said.
Many people think that this is very close, very close. It’s not.’

Speaking on his podcast, Barton gave his verdict on where Paul Scholes stands in the debate.
Barton admitted he didn’t think it was close when discussing who was the best player.
Barton, who has recently been accused of “bullying” a 17-year-old goalkeeper after making fun of a mistake in the cup final, went on to reveal who he thinks is the best player.
“Steven Gerrard was night and day miles ahead of Frank Lampard,” he continued.
“Paul Scholes was a phenomenal player.”
Barton went on to clarify his comments about Lampard, making sure not to appear disrespectful to his former England colleague.
He said: ‘I’m not going to criticize Frank. He has an incredible scoring record. He’s a fantastic player, there’s no doubt about that.”
The controversial former player then explained why he believes Gerrard is the best of the trio.
‘Actually, he (Lampard) couldn’t do what Gerrard could do. Gerrard could literally do everything. All the different facets of the game. Frank couldn’t. He could do many of them very well, but he couldn’t do what Steven could do.
“I think Scholes falls into that category, as good as he was.
“I just don’t think that, having played against all of them, having studied all of them and having competed strongly against all of them, that I would prefer to play against the other two over Steven Gerrard.”
Barton finished by reminiscing about his playing days and admitted he enjoyed playing against Liverpool and Gerrard despite placing him at the top of his rankings.
“I always played well against Liverpool and against Gerrard, but he was a phenomenal athlete.
“People don’t realize how big he is, how tall he is, how fast he was, how big his legs were. He was a big man.
