Bernardo Silva has changed his mind on Manchester City’s hopes of winning the Premier League after a Sky Sports interviewer convinced him of their chances.
Pep Guardiola’s side were held to a goalless draw by a resilient Arsenal side at the Etihad on Sunday afternoon, leaving both teams behind leaders Liverpool in their bid to win this season’s top-flight title.
In the post-match interview, Silva initially said his team was “no longer favourites”, after dropping two points to the Gunners.
Silva added: ‘We have to be realistic. A lot of things can happen now, because (there are) seven games, right?’
As he tried to remember how many games were left, Sky Sports reporter Patrick Davison told him there were more than Silva thought.

Silva’s City were frustrated by the goalless draw against title rivals Arsenal.

The Manchester City star replied: ‘Oh, nine? That’s better for us. I thought it would be seven or eight, but nine is better because a lot can happen.’
Davison jokingly asked, “Again?” to which Silva replied: “Yes, we are back at this.”
The Portuguese midfielder added: “We don’t depend on ourselves, we depend on Liverpool, because we don’t play against them.” We also depend on Arsenal because we don’t play against them, so we need them to leave points.
“We have to do our job and win our games.”
Liverpool’s 2-1 victory over Brighton earlier in the day meant they took top spot from Arsenal, before the spoils were shared in Manchester.
Manchester City are one point behind Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal and three points behind Jurgen Klopp’s Reds.
Each team has nine matches to decide who lifts the Premier League trophy in May.
Silva is seeking a fourth consecutive league title with his Man City team-mates, and sixth in total since joining in 2017, but they face tough tests including games against Aston Villa, Spurs and Brighton in the coming weeks.
Silva admitted he was out of his depth, but added: “We need to do our job and win our games.”
Liverpool took top spot in the Premier League after their 2-1 victory over Brighton on Sunday.

They are also looking to retain the Champions League and FA Cup trophies they won during last year’s successful Treble campaign.
Arsenal host Luton Town and Manchester City host Aston Villa on Wednesday night, before Liverpool’s home game against Sheffield United the following day.
