Sven-Goran Eriksson has called his day as Liverpool Legends manager “a memory of a lifetime” after achieving a lifelong dream.
The former England manager shocked the football world in January when he announced he had “about a year” to live and was battling cancer.
He fulfilled his lifelong dream of managing Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday, leading his team to a 4-2 victory with the likes of Fernando Torres, Djibrial Cisse and Gregory Vignal on the scoresheet.
The 76-year-old was all smiles as he walked onto the Anfield pitch before the match, cameras surrounding him and the 60,000 fans present applauding his arrival as he bowed his head in acknowledgment.
After the match, Eriksson praised the charity match and explained his pride in leading his team at Anfield.

Eriksson led the team to a 4-2 victory over Ajax Legends in front of 60,000 fans at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.

“I think we were always the better team, so it was a fair result,” he told Liverpool website. But this is fantastic.
“I think we were the better team even in the first half, even if we were 2-0 down. You always worry when you lose but like I said, very good first half and extremely good second half. A good win, a fair win, but the big winners we are all here.
“I think the man of the match is the public, the public, but it was a good football match worth seeing. They can still play football. Very good.
“They are not 20 years old anymore and it is good football, extremely good football. It is fantastic, they come from everywhere, from all over Europe and he (Steven Gerrard) comes from another part of the world to do this and it is fantastic. A memory for life.’
Eriksson received a warm welcome when he walked onto the Anfield pitch before the match, arm in arm with Gerrard.

Admitting that she was crying when Never Walk Alone played on the floor, she helped turn the game from 2-0 to a 4-2 victory.
He was hugged by several players throughout the game and sat alongside the likes of Ian Rush and John Barnes on the home bench.
“I think everyone won today and it was beautiful, absolutely fantastic, incredible,” he said. ‘Everything about You’ll Never Walk Alone and the rest of the game, and a good win: we were 2-0 down and won 4-2.
‘I was crying (in You’ll Never Walk Alone). He (Gerrard) is the boss out there, of course (he still has it).’
