The Illinois State Capitol building is reportedly on lockdown due to an alleged gun threat.

Photos taken by local news station WICS posted to X shows police cars have surrounded the building.

Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias said ‘Illinois State Police received notification of a threat involving the Illinois Capitol Building.’

“Out of an abundance of caution, the Illinois Secretary of State Police issued a lockdown order and are currently conducting a review of the building.”

Illinois lobbyist Dan Johnson said on X that he is inside the building: ‘I am locked in a legislative office in the Illinois Capitol complex while there is a building that is on lockdown from someone calling in a threat of a gun.’
