A swimmer is missing after becoming trapped in a rip at a popular Sydney beach, sparking a massive search operation.
Emergency services, including an ambulance rescue helicopter and a police boat, were called to Brontë Beach to reports of a man missing in the surf at around 7.45pm on Sunday.
It is believed that another person was also trapped in the tear, but was saved.
A NSW Ambulance rescue helicopter and a police boat were deployed to search for the man through heavy surf.
Local police and Surf Lifesavers could also be seen conducting a ground search in Bronte Gulley.
Anyone with information has been urged to contact police.
