New England Patriots legend Rob Gronkowski doesn’t believe Travis Kelce’s production is a sign that the Chiefs star’s NFL retirement is imminent.
Gronkowski responded to the construction criticism surrounding Kelce, saying he didn’t understand why he was getting so much heat.
The 35-year-old Kelce has 89 catches for 739 yards and two touchdowns with two games remaining in the NFL regular season.
There have never been more eyes on Kelce, both on and off the court due to his relationship with Taylor Swift.
That spotlight has led to more criticism and more attention from defenders. The Chiefs are still 14-1, despite a dip in form from Kelce.
‘I think he can last at least two more years. We’re talking about lower stats. How do your stats stack up if you already have over 80 catches at 35?’ Gronkowski said.
Many have criticized Travis Kelce for a drop in his production in 2024 due to external factors
Gronkowski doesn’t understand why Kelce’s season has been shortened by some this year
Gronkowski cited his own career, passing the 80-catch plateau twice in his career, both at age 25 or younger. Kelce has surpassed that threshold every year since 2016.
Kelce’s non-football career has included his podcast “New Heights,” which he hosts with his older brother and retired NFL legend Jason Kelce, who reportedly landed a $100 million deal with Wondery this year.
The Chiefs sensation also hosted the revival game show ‘Are You Smarter Than A Celebrity?’, where he rubbed elbows with other famous faces like Nikki Glaser, who starred on Tom Brady’s Netflix Roast earlier this year.
Most criticism of Kelce looks too hard at his touchdown total, compared to the disappointing five scores he had last season.
Still, most Chiefs fans won’t care if Kelce never scores again if the team keeps winning on its way to a possible third straight Super Bowl.
