A pediatric emergency doctor has shared a chilling warning over the festive period after revealing a six-month-old baby was rushed to hospital after accidentally getting drunk.
Meghan Martin, who goes by the social media handle @beachgem10, recently posted a video on TikTok explaining that the young boy came to the hospital where she works after parents noticed he wouldn’t wake up.
Meghan and her team ran a series of tests but struggled to find anything wrong with him until they noticed his blood alcohol level was double the legal limit.
“This boy was soft,” the mother of four recalled in one the now viral clip. “They bought him right into the resuscitation room and we started getting vital signs.”
Dr. Martin said fortunately the boy was breathing well and his other vital signs looked normal.
However, she noted that he was cold, with a body temperature of just 34 degrees, and that his blood sugar levels were low, at the age of 25, which she said was “completely not normal.”
She explained that her team tried to give him some sugar, but still nothing changed.
“We’re going to have him get a CAT scan. A CAT scan is normal,” she continued. “We ran all the labs, we did it all.”

While all of the boy’s readings started to return to normal, the doctor said he still wasn’t waking up.
“I ask my mother more questions, he has no medical history, no medications, allergy shots up to date, no surgeries,” she said.
Dr. Martin noted that the parents had a party the night before, with the mother saying he went to bed around 8 p.m., woke up at 5 a.m. for a bottle and then slept for a few more hours.
“And he stayed the night,” she said again. “They woke up at 10 o’clock and he just wouldn’t wake up.”
The pediatrician said the next step after running the battery of tests was to do a lumbar puncture to check for meningitis.
“So I get my gloves, I’m ready to tap, I get permission from my mom and then the nurse bursts in the door and says, ‘Wait a minute, he’s drunk,'” the stunned doctor recounted.
She said his blood alcohol level was 180, which is more than twice the legal limit.
Dr. Martin explained that his mother said she made the bottle by combining the formula with what she thought was water from a water bottle that was on the kitchen counter.
Dr. Martin urged people to be ‘cautious’ and added that they see a ‘few similar cases’ every year
Concerned viewers rushed to the comments section of the post and shared their disbelief at the story
What she didn’t know was that the water bottle contained vodka.
“Yes, he had a bottle of vodka,” the doctor said. “So someone had filled a water bottle with vodka the night before at the party and left it on the counter.
‘The mother thought it was water because it was clear and fixed the bottle. She was a bit sleepy and hadn’t smelled it at all.’
According to Dr. Martin, they see a ‘few cases’ every year that are similar to this one.
“The other thing we see is that toddlers wake up after the party and there are a few more cups on the counter or on the table with some kind of fruit punch in them, and they drink it, and then they get really drunk and the parents wake up and there’s a drunk toddler,” she added.
“Be careful about placing alcohol in unlabeled containers, such as water bottles, that people may mistake for water,” she urged. ‘Children can accidentally drink it.’
Concerned viewers rushed to the comments section of the post and shared their disbelief at the story.
“OH MY GOD. I mean, it’s entirely possible that things could be mistaken for something else, but yeah… glad the baby boy is doing well,” one user wrote.
‘That’s so scary. I have an eight month old and I couldn’t even imagine it,” wrote another.
“The way my jaw hit the floor as soon as I heard the vodka,” someone else wrote.
“Please be careful during the holidays,” Dr. urged. Martin on.
