In New York City, a couple had their unforgettable moment caught on camera in a beautiful setting, or so they thought.
The couple is seen smiling together under a twinkling Christmas tree, before the camera pans to capture the Big Apple and the surrounding bright lights.
Just before surprising his future wife by getting down on one knee and asking her to hold his hand in marriage, the video is decimated by the sight of a rat running under the Christmas tree.
The camera then pans clumsily to another mass of buildings before coming to an abrupt end.
Posted by user @papermiishe on the social media platform, the video has been viewed more than 5,000 times since it was posted on December 5.
When reacting to the video in the comments section, users took the opportunity to point out how the rat inadvertently ruined the couple’s big moment.

It comes after a man lost his wife’s proposal ring in the water while making the big move next to a lake.
Earlier this year, McKenna Hiller, who is a New York-based model, was asked by her future brother-in-law to film the proposal on her phone.
The video begins with her sister’s boyfriend, dressed smartly in a red shirt and cream chinos, kneeling as they stand together on a pier.
After caressing her boyfriend’s face, McKenna’s sister says “of course I will” and turns around to see her family’s reaction, but accidentally knocks the ring box out of her partner’s hand.

Fortunately for the couple, McKenna reacted quickly and didn’t stop to think before jumping into the water to retrieve it.
She said: ‘My instinct as a little sister was to jump right in!’
But as he dives into the water, McKenna knocks over a beer bottle, prompting someone off-camera to say, “This is typical of us!”
Thanks to her quick reactions, McKenna was able to rescue the diamond engagement ring before it floated away.
The video then ends with the couple reuniting with the ring and sharing a quick kiss.
