Where the Warriors’ loss to the Grizzlies ranks in franchise history originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area
Simply put, the Memphis Grizzlies smoked the Warriors like barbecue ribs on Thursday night.
In fact, Golden State’s 144-93 loss at FedExForum It ranks as one of the worst in the franchise’s eight-decade history.
The 51 point margin is tied for the fourth worst defeat in history for the Warriors, both as a visitor and in general. And if not for a last-second layup by Brandin Podziemski at the final buzzer, it would have tied its second-worst loss.
Additionally, Thursday’s explosion marked the Largest margin of defeat of the 2024-25 NBA season – by any team.
If there’s a silver lining for Golden State, though, this wasn’t even their worst loss of 2024; The Boston Celtics’ 52-point victory in March maintains that honor.
Aside from the 2021 loss to the Toronto Raptors, in which Neither Steph Curry nor Draymond Green played — each of the other three losses on the list came to the eventual NBA champion that season. Maybe that bodes well for the Grizzlies this year?
Going back to Curry and Green, this was the first time the duo has ever played without a field goal in a game in which both players played.
In another career first, Curry had never failed to score a single field goal in a game that had clocked at least 12 minutes until Thursday night. He Warriors Star Guard he finished with just two points (both from the free throw line) on 0-of-7 shooting from the field.
So yeah, not a great night for Golden State.
