It’s been just over three years since Daniel Craig’s latest James Bond film, No Time To Die, hit theaters, and we’re apparently no closer to knowing who the new 007 is than we were then.
While there have been large gaps between Bond eras, such as the six years between Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan, there is typically no more than a two-year wait for Bond films, even in a regime change.
For the past 30 years, the James Bond franchise has been controlled by producers Barbara Broccoli, daughter of original Bond producer Albert R. Broccoli, and his half-brother Michael G. Wilson.
Just a few months after Craig’s latest foray into the 007 universe, Amazon shelled out a whopping $6.5 billion to acquire Bond distributor MGM.
It appears the future of the franchise that began with Sean Connery’s Dr. No in 1962 is in dire straits, according to a new report from Wall Street Journal.
The producers and Amazon are at an impasse, with Amazon demanding ideas for new Bond films, although Broccoli apparently has no interest in making them with Amazon.
Daily Mail has contacted Broccoli’s Eon Productions for comment on this new report.

The producers and Amazon, particularly executive Jennifer Salke (above), are at an impasse, with Amazon demanding ideas for new Bond films, although Broccoli apparently has no interest in making them with Amazon.
Broccoli, 64, who has more fully taken the reins of the franchise as his 82-year-old brother nears retirement, has told friends that the people at Amazon are “damn idiots.”
Broccoli has complained that Amazon, better known for its e-commerce platform rather than its Prime Video streaming service, is not a good fit for the super spy.
She’s clearly content to hold the character hostage, so to speak, refusing to develop new films under Amazon.
Broccoli insisted that Amazon commit to theatrical releases, and his company Eon Productions retains full creative control over the franchise.
Amazon’s Jennifer Salke was tasked with dealing with Broccoli, and insiders claimed that Broccoli was shut down almost immediately when Salke referred to the franchise as “content.”
There has been a lot of discussion about who should play 007 next, with some believing they should go as far as casting a black man or even possibly a gay man or woman.
Broccoli has no problem casting a black or gay man as the next Bond, but he reportedly insists that Bond must be a man and that man must be British.
In June 2022, just months after Amazon acquired MGM, Broccoli told a BFI event that a new Bond film wouldn’t be coming too soon.

‘I would say filming is at least two years away. “It’s a reinvention of Bond,” Broccoli said at the time, insisting that they didn’t yet have anyone in mind to play 007.
He added that work on the new script had not even started yet, as they wanted to make a casting decision first.
Two years later, the only 007-related project Eon produced was the 2023 reality series 007: One in a Million, hosted by Brian Cox, which follows nine ordinary people who embark on a global adventure similar to Bond’s in the hope of winning £1 million. .
A second season is in the works, although it is unclear when production will begin or when it will be released.
