Christian Barmore was placed on the non-football injury list months after suffering blood clots

The New England Patriots have placed defensive tackle Christian Barmore on their non-football illness list, months after being diagnosed with blood clots in July.

Barmore, 25, is in his fourth season in Foxborough and has been limited to four appearances due to his condition.

On Thursday, the Patriots released a statement regarding his status as the team has three games remaining this season.

“The New England Patriots are placing defensive lineman Christian Barmore on the non-football illness reserve list after he experienced a number of recurring symptoms that required further evaluation,” the statement said.

“We appreciate everything Christian has done to return to the team this season, but our top priority is Christian’s health and well-being. We know he will continue to receive great care and we want to make sure he gets the time he needs to come back stronger than ever.”

The Alabama product had six solo tackles and a sack in his four games for New England, with his last coming Sunday in their 30-17 loss to the Arizona Cardinals.

Barmore’s diagnosis earlier this year came after treatment at a hospital in Massachusetts.

On his 25th birthday, the Patriots announced that Baron “had been appropriately treated by the doctors at Mass General Brigham, who tested, evaluated and treated Christian.” Our primary concern at this time is Christian’s health and well-being.

“Fortunately, Mass General Brigham offers some of the best healthcare in the world,” the team added. “While there is currently no timetable for his return, we know Christian is receiving great care and we look forward to his full recovery.”

While away from the NFL action, Barmore made headlines after accusing Providence police of racism during a traffic stop in Rhode Island.

A partially redacted incident report provided to DailyMail.com showed that Barmore was stopped for a traffic violation around 1 a.m. on October 16. Barmore, listed as a suspect, was charged with driving an unregistered vehicle, failure to properly display license plates and driving with an expired registration.

Barmore tweeted shortly after accusing police of being racist, but after taking to social media on Saturday, he has walked back those comments and his tweet has since been deleted.

“A few days have passed since the incident with Providence police and I have had a chance to think deeply about my behavior,” he wrote.

“I want everyone to know that I am sorry and that I take full responsibility for my actions. I apologize to the Providence Police Department, my teammates and my family.

‘My mother was a police officer and I understand the pressure that comes with their work. Which didn’t make it any easier by reacting the way I did. I use this as an opportunity to learn and perform better.

“I have already met with members of the Providence Police Department to personally apologize.

‘I hope they accept my sincere apologies. That meeting is just the first step of many that I take on the road to self-improvement.’

The Patriots drafted Barmore with the 38th pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. The team is 4th in the AFC East with a 3-11 record.
