Still, it didn’t take long for fans to rejoice at the news.

Hulu’s hit drama series Tell Me Lies, starring Grace Van Patten and Jackson White, has been renewed for a third season

“The best news of 2024 was hearing they told me lies for a third season,” wrote another, and, “TELL ME LIES RENEWED FOR SEASON 3 LFG!!!!”

The news sparked a wave of over-enthusiastic memes after there was some doubt the stars had yet to sign a deal for a comeback, DailyMail.com exclusively reported.

Previously, Hulu announced that Tell Me Lies had been renewed for a second season, just a month after the first season wrapped.

While little is known about what direction season three could take, series creator Meaghan Oppenheimer teased that Tom Ellis, who plays Oliver, a professor at Baird College, would most likely not return.

“I think Tom only wanted to do one season. I think we wrapped up his storyline in a way that really worked for me. I don’t know where else we would go with him next,” she told Variety.

Oppenheimer continued, “I think we might be able to bring Marianne back. There is much more story to tell about her. But I think we’ve figured out that by the end of this season, Oliver is so broken and hollow that I’m ready for Bree to be done with him.”

“One of the main reasons I wanted to do the show in the first place is to dispel the myth that only weak or stupid women are deceived by narcissists and bad people,” she noted.

‘That only foolish women are overwhelmed by love. It happens to the strongest of us. Some of the most incredible women I know, their only weak spot is a man or relationships. There’s something vulnerable about that.’

While talking about leaving season two on a cliffhanger for THR, the TV screenwriter said she “always” enjoys “keeping people guessing.”

“I always try to surprise people,” she teased.

Oppenheimer was most likely referring to the scene where Stephen sends Bree a voicemail on her wedding day revealing that Evan, her husband-to-be, had sex with Lucy.

Oppenheimer explained that the idea for the “wild cliffhanger” came after season one.

“I was sure he was going to record Evan saying this. Initially I didn’t think he would play it at the end of the final. I rewrote the ending of the finale very quickly, at the last minute.

“I was on the set of (Video) Village and I rewrote it because initially it was going to be more of a cliffhanger of, is he going to tell Bree or not at the wedding? And then I decided he should just tell her; we just need to get that blown up,” she said.

Oppenheimer continued, “The long con is interesting, but I have a lot of Scorpios in my life and I think there are people who definitely go for the long con, and Stephen is one of them. I mean, my God, he has a grudge.”

When asked if viewers should expect the fallout from Evan’s confession in season three, Oppenheimer said, “I think we’ll have to see.” Poor Bree. That, in my mind, is the hashtag of the season, #PoorBree. She just experienced it. I think she deserves a response to this huge betrayal from everyone.”

As for whether fans should expect a season three, she said she didn’t know.

“I think the show has had a really great response this season, so I’m very hopeful about a season three,” she said.

‘I always like to keep people guessing. And I also think that some of my favorite shows, even when they end, don’t leave things completely resolved. I don’t hate open-ended stories. So I kind of thought, let’s make a cliffhanger so people want to come back, and if we can’t answer it, then that’s life.”
