A horrified shopper who bought her colleague a gift from Secret Santa was petrified when a huge spider arrived with her Shein package.

Marnie Holman paid £1.25 for a two-piece Christmas hat and a decorative scarf for a bottle of wine, but the experience left her feeling more Halloween than Christmas.

The 22-year-old nurse from Torquay, Devon, was forced to call pest control after she was forced to catch the live arachnid when it emerged from the wrapper.

She had placed a large order from the online fashion brand that arrived on Tuesday, but when it arrived, Marnie claimed she saw something moving inside the sealed bag containing the gift.

When he realized it was a spider, the customer became disgusted and threw the package in a panic.

“I’m terrified of spiders,” he revealed. ‘I was taking everything out of the box. Everything came in a big box because it was a big order.

‘Everything from Shein is in a sealed and vacuumed plastic casing. As I opened the bag with the Santa hat inside, something moved through the package.

“I said, ‘Oh my God, it’s a spider,’ and I threw it across the room.”

Marnie said the spider was “absolutely huge.”

“When I went to film him, he was showing me his fangs,” he joked.

The terrified shopper had used tweezers to remove the gift and put the bag, with the spider still inside, into a tub.

“My Secret Santa gift was due this week, so I had to use tweezers to remove the gift and then put the bag in a tub,” she admitted. “It’s currently in a box in my kitchen.”

Marnie added that she had to contact a pest controller because the order came from China, so she didn’t know the spider was harmless.

She admitted that the experience had put her off purchasing from the online retailer, to whom she had informed of her discovery.

“I have a huge phobia of spiders,” he added. “I used to shop at Shein all the time, but it’s really put me off.”

FEMAIL has contacted Shein for comment.

Earlier this year, a Bristol University student was terrified when she discovered a potentially lethal Chinese scorpion hidden inside her Shein pack.

And data shared with MailOnline by the National Center for Reptile Welfare (NCRW) reveals that events like this are much more common than you think.

Every year, hundreds of scorpions, snakes and spiders sneak into the UK inside parcels, luggage and even fresh supermarket fruit.

Since 2018, NCRW has rescued more than 400 ‘stowaways’ from across the country, including black widow spiders and the world’s deadliest snake.

Chris Newman, director of the NCRW, told MailOnline: “Human health is our biggest concern, some of these animals are medically important and could be life-threatening.”
