A cannibalistic child sex murderer admitted he “deserves to die” and pleaded to be saved from his imminent execution.
Kevin Underwood, 44, is just hours away from receiving the death penalty for the brutal murder of his neighbor Jamie Rose Bolin.
Bolin was just 10 years old when she was lured to the killer’s home in Purcell, Oklahoma, where she was beaten to death.
Underwood planned to rape and dismember the young woman before eating her flesh as part of a “premeditated sexual and cannibalistic fantasy,” according to prosecutors.
He was sentenced to death after his conviction in 2006.
Last week he made a last attempt to save himself, which was finally rejected.
“Although I do not want to die, I recognize that I deserve it for what I did,” he told the court. ‘If my death could change what I did, I would gladly die.
“I would like to apologize to the victim’s family, my own family and everyone in that room who had to hear the horrible details of what I did.”
Cannibalistic child killer Kevin Underwood has admitted he “deserves to die” and pleaded to be saved from his imminent execution.
Jamie Rose Bolin, 10, was brutally murdered in 2006 by her neighbor, Kevin Underwood, who faces the death penalty for his heinous act.
Underwood, who was 26 at the time of the crime, caught Bolin after inviting her to his apartment to play with his pet rat.
He described in an interview “how he had recently developed a desire to kidnap a person, sexually abuse him, eat his flesh and dispose of his remains,” the Court of Criminal Appeals wrote in 2011.
Underwood hit Bolin in the head several times with a wooden board and then suffocated her while she watched SpongeBob SquarePants on her television.
He said he tried to have sex with her body and remove her head with a dagger, before becoming disgusted with himself and deciding not to eat her, the Oklahoman reported.
Bolin was discovered two days later in Underwood’s apartment, hiding in his closet in the plastic bathtub.
The young man’s grieving family also spoke at the clemency hearing arguing against mercy for Underwood.
‘How dare you, Kevin Underwood, ask for mercy? “How dare you look at the courthouse, look at Jamie’s family, and then ask that of us,” said Bolin’s sister, Lori Pate.
—You, Kevin Underwood, expect us to forgive you. He wants us to forgive him for the fact that he intended to consume it.
As he tearfully pleaded for his life at a clemency hearing, Bolin’s sister, Lori Pate, gave a scathing response to the convicted killer. Bolin’s family is seen here wearing the same green shirts.
Tennia Lieb (R), sister of Jamie’s father, and Linda Chiles (L), an aunt, speak to the media outside the McClain County Courthouse in Purcell, Oklahoma, Monday, April 17, 2006.
Underwood’s lawyers claimed that her crimes were due to her mental health problems.
You beat her like an animal and raped her. You deserve the original sentence and everything that has happened to you.
‘When I was 14 you showed me that monsters aren’t just something made up from story books. They wear our same clothes and walk our same streets.’
Underwood’s lawyers had attempted to argue that he should be forgiven, blaming his heinous crimes on his mental health issues and pornography addiction.
But three board members voted unanimously against recommending clemency, leaving the final decision in the hands of Gov. Kevin Stitt.
“I am pleased that the board voted to deny clemency to this deeply evil monster and ensured that justice will be served for Jamie Rose Bolin,” said State Attorney General Genter Drummond.
“Jamie’s family have waited 18 excruciating years for justice, which will finally come true when this murderer is executed.”
Underwood is scheduled to be executed by lethal injection on Dec. 19 at McAlester State Penitentiary.
