Scooter Claus: Recruiting boss James Reed is celebrating a big haul

The Big Give, a Christmas charity run by head of recruitment James Reed, has overtaken Children In Need and Comic Relief as the biggest fundraiser of 2024.

In the week to December 10, donations of £45 million came in from 120,000 members of the public.

This was a 35 per cent increase on last year’s record-breaking £33m.

The haul included £20 million in “matching funds” from philanthropists, foundations and companies, which promised to match contributions from ordinary donors.

James Reed, director of recruitment agency Reed, said: “The record amount was raised despite many people still being squeezed by the cost of living crisis.

‘We were hoping to beat last year’s record total, but to do it by that margin is extraordinary.

“I want to thank everyone who chose one of the more than 1,250 charities to support, and our generous funding supporters who doubled those donations.”

The Big Give aims to raise £1bn by the end of the decade.
