Jude Law heartbreakingly discovered that his mother Maggie had died just after receiving the news that he would receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The British actor, 51, admitted he had to delay the ceremony and it was a “long process” after the tragic loss occurred when he was set to receive the prestigious honour.
spoke with People shortly after the ceremony and said the event had been “quite an emotional experience” as he described the star as a “final gift”
Jude told the publication: “It’s actually been quite a long process because I found out and I was originally going to have the service a couple of weeks ago.”
‘And actually, I lost my mom. So we had to delay it. But in a very strange way, as a kind of final gift, it meant that some more of my family could be here.
“Honestly, the whole event has been quite an emotional experience and obviously a very personal and really moving occasion.”
Jude cut a dapper figure in a smart gray jacket which he teamed with a white open collar shirt and a pair of black pants.

Jude was supported by his wife Phillipa Coan and their two children, Iris and Rafferty, as he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday.
The actor couldn’t contain his smile as his star was revealed during the special ceremony with his proud family looking on.

Meanwhile, his glamorous wife Phillipa, who is 13 years his junior, put on a leggy display in a black roll-neck dress which she teamed with opaque tights.
The stunner added a sleek black blazer over the top and elevated her figure with a pair of ankle boots.
Jude and Phillipa secretly welcomed their second child together, the actor’s seventh, last February.
The Christmas star’s eldest son, Rafferty, 27, cut a great figure in a gray sweater and navy jacket as he showed his support at the ceremony alongside his long-term girlfriend, Rosa Ramirez.
Meanwhile, Iris, 23, turned heads in a white draped minidress that was cinched at the waist with a thick gold chain belt.
Jude said: ‘And actually, I lost my mum. So we had to delay it. But in a very strange way, as a sort of final gift, it meant that some more of my family could be here’ (Maggie and Jude pictured in 2017).
He added: “Honestly, the whole event has been quite an emotional experience and obviously a very personal and really moving occasion.”
Jude was supported by his wife Phillipa Coan and two children, Iris and Rafferty, as he received the star on Thursday.
The model added inches to her figure with a pair of sky-high wedges and kept warm in a trendy blue wool coat.
In his speech, Jude addressed his family and sweetly thanked them for their support as he continued his acting career.
He said: ‘I have been very lucky to have had a family around me who have lived and supported my passion for acting and film.
And some of those members of my lovely family are here today. And they know what they mean to me. I love you so much.’
Jude shares Rafferty and Iris, as well as son Rudy, 21, with ex-wife Sadie Frost.
The actor is also the father of his daughter Sophia, 15, with model Samantha Burke and Ada, nine, with singer-songwriter Catherine Harding.
