Malcolm In the Middle star Frankie Muniz opened up about his hair loss journey, how baldness affected his confidence and he finally found a solution with the help of his wife.
Over the years, the actor, 39, admitted he tried various treatments, including a hair transplant, but ended up suffering some rare side effects that discouraged him.
While appearing on the HairClub podcast, pelopodFather of one, admitted he struggled to accept hair loss in his early twenties as someone who always had “thick hair” growing up.
In an effort to slow his hair loss, he “started taking medications, using topical creams, and (wearing) laser hats.”
“I remember everything just kept getting worse and worse,” he recalled. “I really didn’t know what to do, almost to the point where I gave up.”
In the end, Muñiz said he “was tired of trying things that didn’t help the situation” and that made him “increasingly conscious” of his hair.

At the time, he remembered being hyper fixated on his hair every time he passed a mirror and was always “picturing” and “comparing” them to past photographs.
Muniz recalled his first struggle with hair loss while filming the final season of his hit series, Malcolm In the Middle, which aired from 2000 to 2006.
It also coincided with his turn to racing cars professionally.
“I don’t want to say I was surprised how I went from having hair to having no hair,” she began. “I didn’t really notice it until I noticed it.”
After wrapping Malcolm In the Middle, Muniz said that, without the help of hair and makeup, she finally noticed her hair loss.
“I started having to comb my hair for the first time,” she said, referring to the period after Malcolm In the Middle ended. “It was definitely a shock, you know, especially because I was young, 19 or 20 years old.”
Despite being in the spotlight and having a team of people working for him, the actor said he was alone in overcoming his hair loss.
“I didn’t have anyone to help me,” she said, before detailing her trials and errors before finding hair restoration company HairClub.

While speaking about her openness about her hair loss, Muniz admitted that others in her industry are “afraid” to talk about the treatments they’ve had to fix it.
“I think it’s interesting because, you know, we live, especially now, in a time where most celebrities, most people you see on social media have tons of work and they don’t hide it, but it’s still a sensitive topic when “It’s about men talking about their hair,” he noted.
He continued: “I think it’s kind of interesting because, it’s not something you can help with, right? If you’re losing your hair, if you’re having problems like that, it’s not like you’ve done something wrong or, you know, what do I mean?” I mean? It’s genetics.’
Muniz noted that it was his wife, Paige Price, who forced him to do a hair consultation with HairClub when he had resorted to simply wearing hats and shaving his head.
In response to his hair loss, he “started taking medications and using topical creams and (wearing) laser hats” in an effort to slow the balding process.
“I remember everything just kept getting worse and worse,” he recalled. “I really didn’t know what to do, almost to the point where I gave up”
“I was so used to being disappointed by the results of things that you spent a lot of money on, or a lot of time or pain, like physical pain. So I didn’t have much hope,” he recalls.
However, after working with HairClub, she said she received “immediate gratification” and a boost to her confidence.
“It really changed my life,” he said of his results. ‘It changed every aspect of my life. It gave me more confidence in everything, from a work point of view, from an exercise point of view, everything!’
Following his hair transformation, which he described as basically immediate, the artist said it gave him the “confidence” to compete again.
“I think I dug myself into a bit of a hole,” he confessed. “And I just stayed away from acting, I stayed away from putting myself out there… I hate to admit that, but I didn’t realize it had such a big effect on me in a negative way.” .’

Frankie was just a teenager when he rose to fame as the star of hit comedy Malcolm In The Middle.
The series also starred Bryan Cranston, who would later become a household name for his role in Breaking Bad.
The young actor was nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Comedy/Musical TV Series for his role, but lost to Charlie Sheen for Spin City.
Frankie remained in the spotlight after his run on Malcolm In The Middle, with roles in several Sharknado films and even as a host on Dancing With The Stars: Junior.
