With less than two weeks until his Bob Dylan biopic, A Complete Unknown, hits theaters, the Hollywood heartthrob revealed some surprising details about the film.
The film, based on Elijah Wald’s 2015 book Dylan Goes Electric, features the actor singing and performing Dylan songs on guitar.
The actor appeared on Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Thursday to promote the film, where he teased a special Christmas surprise.
Since the film opens nationwide on Christmas Day, it’s unclear what Timothee plans to feature, although it is related to Dylan’s 2009 Christmas song, Must Be Santa.
It also traced the long road this film had to travel to reach the big screen, which was originally scheduled to shoot in the summer of 2019.
He even shared an exclusive video of him singing a Bob Dylan song… while on the set of his first Dune movie.

The actor began by admitting, “This is a film I am absolutely proudest of in my career,” which covers a four-year span between 1961 and 1965.
The first year is when Dylan moved from his home state of Minnesota to New York City, and 1965 was his controversial performance at the Newport Folk Festival where he used an electric guitar for the first time.
Colbert mentioned that the film not only charted Dylan’s career between those years, but also shed light on America as a country at the time.
“It’s as much a movie about Bob Dylan’s early life, from 1961 to 1965, as it is about the United States at the time, Greenwich Village at the time, kind of a tense political environment,” Timothee said.
The actor admitted that he “wasn’t very informed” about Dylan’s work when he was first signed, but when he started searching for his music, he first came across some of his 1965 press conferences.
“They approached me with the material and there were these press conferences that came up from 1965 onwards, where he was so confrontational in his media appearances and was so elusive and mysterious,” the Dune star said.
He then traced the arduous journey this film took to reach theaters in a few weeks, after more than five years in the making.
‘It was supposed to be summer 2019 and we were supposed to film it. Excuse me. “In the summer of 2020 we were supposed to shoot it and the pandemic happened,” he added.

While both he and director James Mangold moved on to other projects, he continued to work on Dylan, as they even showed a video of him performing a Dylan song on the set of the first Dune movie.
‘We were supposed to do it in 2023 and the actors’ strike occurred. I started to think: is there a curse in this project? Then we did it the next summer, last summer. It was a relief. “I felt like he was taking something away from me,” he admitted.
The actor also admitted that he recorded all the music live on camera, which is quite rare in films of this type, but the French-American heartthrob admitted that something “clicked” inside him.
‘The worst thing we could have done with a Bob Dylan biopic is sanitized it to make it sound clean. This was a man from iron ore country. Minneapolis, Minnesota. Hibbing, Duluth. You hear it in his voice. “I didn’t want to be a New Yorker recording in Los Angeles decimating that music,” he said.
The actor went on to say: ‘This is like an American hero, a great American. One of the fantastic artists of our time. “This movie is a humble bridge, it’s a gateway for hopefully anyone who isn’t a fan to discover.”
When asked if he would be playing Must Be Santa during the holidays, Timothee joked, “I have a little Must Be Santa surprise up my sleeve.”
