Selena Gomez has revealed that she sees her ‘pop star life’ chapter coming to an end in a candid new interview with Variety.

Gomez, 32, began her music career 16 years ago and has since toured and received two Grammy nominations.

But now the Emilia Pérez star believes she is no longer an aging ‘pop star’.

During a chat with Saoirse Ronan for the publication’s Actors on Actors series, the multi-hyphenate spoke about her music career and how she believes her strength lies in acting.

‘I definitely think my strong point is probably acting. But one thing I’m proud of in music is being able to tell a story: my favorite songs are mostly ballads, and they’re very transparent and honest,” she admitted.

But I think maybe I’m too old for the pop star life. “I am really very happy to be in this new era of my life, because in many ways it is just the beginning.”

Ronan then praised Selena’s singing and acting skills, particularly her ‘solo’ in her new film Emilia Pérez.

“That means a lot to me,” Selena responded. ‘I love telling stories and my musical career is independent. “I don’t think that’s going to be a forever thing, though.”

Ronan asked if she was referring to her music career, which led Selena to mention her boyfriend, music producer Benny Blanco.

Selena explained that she never sees music leaving her life because of her partner’s occupation.

‘I will always have music in my life because my partner is a musician and I love having moments to do it for fun. It can be a little vulnerable when you expose yourself instead of running away to a character.

In fact, Selena’s performance has been drawing praise lately.

She received two Golden Globe nominations, one for Best Supporting Actress – Motion Picture for Emilia Pérez and the other for Best Actress in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy for Only Murders in the Building.

The Spanish-language film received a total of 10 nominations on Monday morning. The awards ceremony will be broadcast on January 5, 2025.
